Se trata de una terapia grupal en la que participan dos o tres pacientes con la asistencia de un terapeuta y un co-terapeuta (opcional). La terapia se aplica de forma intensiva (sesiones de tres horas diarias durante 10 días consecutivos) y tiene como objetivo la estimulación del lenguaje oral y la restricción de otras modalidades compensatorias de comunicación.
La terapia está estructurada en un atractivo formato de juego lingüístico que consiste en el intercambio y emparejamiento de un total de 1.100 tarjetas con ilustraciones distribuidas en seis categorías atendiendo al contenido verbal que representan (sustantivos, pares mínimos, colores, números, adjetivos y frases o acciones). Estas ilustraciones han sido cuidadosamente seleccionadas para trabajar las palabras y conceptos más útiles para la vida cotidiana de los pacientes. Los estudios realizados acerca de la eficacia de esta modalidad de terapia muestran su capacidad para promover la reorganización cortical del procesamiento del lenguaje.
